The Sulphur Nitrate reactor is a bio-reactor filled with sulphur beads which promote the growth of the specialised bacteria that remover nitrate. As a by product of the biochemical reaction that takes place in the sulphur reactor, Sulphuric acid is produced and in consequence the sulphur nitrate reactor must always be used in combination with a hydrocarbonate reactor in which the sulphuric acid is neutralised.
Allow 1 drip per 3 seconds till nitrate level reads ‘0’ through the reactor, this will usually take 1–2 weeks to complete. Increase flow to reactor to 1 drip per 2 seconds for a further 1-2 weeks or when the nitrate level again read ‘0’. Increase to 1 drip per second for 1-2 weeks or when the nitrate reads ‘0’.
Following this basis continue to increase the flow rate to its maximum flow of approx. 2 litres per minute or where the nitrate levels cease to drop.
Notes:
1. Place inline valve to inlet of reactor.
2. Vertical position of reactor is required.
Reactors are delivered with a strong holding system.
